Book Design — Locust Jones

Locust Jones is an Australian artist whose work responds to news, politics, and the intensity of contemporary media. He creates large-scale drawings on uncut rolls of paper, with some works extending up to 10 metres in length. We designed his portfolio around a simple question: How do you bring a 10-metre painting into the format of a book without losing its scale and physical presence?

Rather than binding the book in a conventional way, we developed a folded format that allows the paintings to unfold across large surfaces. This creates a reading experience that moves between the intimacy of a book and the scale of the original works. The red painting used on the cover reflects the raw, expressive character of Jones’s work and establishes its visual language from the first encounter.
